- The flamingo stands between 110 and 130 cm (42-51 inches)
- The average flamingo weighs about 3.5kg (7.7lbs)
- The Flamingo's wingspan is 150cm (almost 5 feet).
- Flamingos get their color from carotenoid pigments
in their food - shrimp.
- Males and females have little color difference making
them difficult to tell apart.
- The joint in their leg about halfway up that looks like a backward knee is actually an ankle.
- Flamingos, like most birds, often stand on one leg to keep the foot warm and conserve body heat.
- Flamingos are a very old species of bird that has
evolved over 30 million years.
